Irene Akio :: T is for Tokyo

In addition to selling her beautiful art, Irene Akio will be also joining our lovely author line up.  Check out this interview below and her interview about her art here.  Irene will be signing her book on Sunday from 2:00pm-3:00pm. Be sure to stop by and say hi!

What inspired you to write it/pursue your project?
I was lucky enough to be approached by a friend and former colleague who works for Things Asian Press. She saw my work and asked me to illustrate a children’s book about Tokyo, my place of birth.  Few of my friends have had the opportunity to visit Japan or Tokyo, and it brings me immense joy to be able to share a glimpse of the massive and beautiful Japanese capital.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
All the images in the book are the aspects of Tokyo that delighted me as a child (and continue to be my favorite objects and places).  Tokyo has enough inspiration to fill thousands of books.

Are you currently working on something new?
I loved working on the illustrations for my book and didn't want to stop drawing, so I continued making art after finishing the project and started a small greeting card business.  Though I have a new book illustration idea I would like to pursue at some point soon, I have been focusing more on my cards in the recent months.  Come by my vendor table and take a look!
