Half Pint Homemade Ice Cream Interview

Tell us bit about yourself, your company.
HP- My company is Half Pint Homemade Ice Cream. We make our ice cream from scratch, in small batches, using local dairy and eggs and other local ingredients when possible. We specialize in "classic flavors with a twist"! Some of our popular flavors include: Chili Chocolate, Sweet Cream Caramel, Coffee Chip, Coconut-Lime Sorbet, and more!
When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
HP- Both of my parents were self-employed, and I always imagined I would have my own business. As a kid, I would set up a table at the end of my driveway to try to sell everything from friendship bracelets to homemade perfume. I guess I had the entrepreneurial spirit even as a child!
Is there a certain person/place/object you draw inspiration from?
HP- As a teenager, my very first job was working in a homemade ice cream shop in my hometown of Boston, and I always draw inspiration from that history. Since both of my parents have their own businesses, I always look to them for advice, ideas and wisdom.
If you had no boundaries: money, time, space, support, etc. what dream project would you pursue?
HP- I would buy a fixer-upper house, renovate it and plant a HUGE edible garden in the back.
What’s your favorite thing to do to kill time? Any secret Internet time wasters, guilty pleasures?
HP- I knit all of the time! Ravelry.com has become the biggest time-suck for me lately. I love perusing the knitting patterns, looking at people's projects, and dreaming about all of the beautiful things I want to knit.
Where do you like to go when you just want to get away? A beach, a mall, a market? What’s your favorite type of spot to go unwind.
HP- Anywhere outdoors. I love camping and hiking and feel lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country where I have unlimited access to the out-of-doors.
If you only had one more meal to eat on this world what would it be? (It can be several courses!)
HP- Well, if I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, it would be french fries of any shape, size and variety. For my last meal, I'd probably choose a bacon blue cheese burger, a chocolate milkshake and, of course, french fries.
What do you love about most UCU’s Summer Show?
HP- The creativity! I am always floored by the incredible things that people create and I love chatting with my fellow vendors about their craft.
Tell our readers what they should expect to see when they stop by and see you at UCU.
HP- Several tasty flavors of ice cream and sorbet for you to enjoy while checking out all of the amazing craft booths!
