Blue Diamond Stamp Co.

Tell us bit about yourself, your company.
BDSC: Hi! My name is Liz and I am a science museum professional by day and stamp-maker by night and weekend.  I run the Blue Diamond Stamp Co. and have been designing, making, and selling my clear polymer art stamps since about 2008.  The stamps offer many benefits over pink rubber stamps and are perfect for all sorts of crafty and decorating projects.  With the proper ink you can stamp on more than just paper.... think about what you could do on fabric, glass, plastic, wood, ceramic, and more!

When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
BDSC: When I was little, I used to list off three things: 1. an artist  2. a baker  3. a football player (yes, I was a bit of a tomboy....).  I think that "working at the zoo" was probably somewhere in there too.

Is there a certain person, place or object you draw inspiration from?
BDSC: I enjoy that my stamp design collection is pretty eclectic.  So I draw inspiration from many sources, such as Victorian-era Sears catalogs and vintage clip-art to cutesy animals and scientific illustration.  Basically if I see something I like it... it will likely inspire a new stamp or stamp set!

If you had no boundaries: money, time, space, support, etc. what dream project would you pursue?
BDSC: My dream project is a animation film, using experimental techniques, preferably shot and edited mostly on 16mm film.  I originally studied film production and traditional animation in college.... but never really had that the opportunity to make something for myself rather than an assignment.  Also, I am still looking for the right story to tell....

What’s your favorite thing to do to kill time? Any secret Internet time wasters, guilty pleasures?
BDSC: I can play a mean game of solitaire on the computer!

Where do you like to go when you just want to get away? A beach, a mall, a market? What’s your favorite type of spot to go unwind.
BDSC: I enjoy eating out in restaurants when I want to unwind.  When I am feeling stressed and need to unwind, I certainly don't  feel like planning a meal!  It is nice to be served and have the ability to just focus on your dining partner and some lovely conversation.

If you only had one more meal to eat on this world what would it be? (It can be several courses)
BDSC: OOooohhh.  That's a tough one.  Let's say it would have to atleast include a steak grilled medium-well and some sweet potatoes with maple syrup.

What do you love most about UCU’s Summer Show?
BDSC: In the summer (rather than at the winter show), shoppers seem to be much more often buying gifts for themselves rather than for someone else.... it's fun to see someone treating themself.  I also enjoy helping people brainstorm new crafty projects and uses for their new stamps.

Tell readers what they should expect to see when they stop by and see you at UCU.
BDSC: My crafty/handy boyfriend helped me revamp my booth for this year.  One of the new big things he designed and built is a 6' flag pole with a fun felt pennant on top to sit in the corner of the booth. It let's people know they have entered the land of stamps.  I am also bringing some fun new stamp designs, such as the "Bigfoot".

Liz is kindly offering her Ship stamp for one lucky reader to add to their stamp collection! Just leave a comment for your chance to win!
