Tell us bit about yourself, your company.
IA:  I am a painter/illustrator and make greeting cards and prints from my artwork.  About three years ago, I started painting again after being away from the brush for ten years.  A friend and colleague saw my work and asked me to illustrate a children’s book about Tokyo, my place of birth.  I loved the project and didn’t want to stop drawing.  Being a letter writer and lover of stationary, I decided to start a greeting card business.  My hope is that my drawings and cards give people a simple moment of joy.

When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
IA:  When I was young I wanted to be an architect.  I loved drawing floor plans and house designs – I always included at least one secret passage in every design.

Is there a certain person, place or object you draw inspiration from?
IA: As cheesy as it is, my fella inspires me.  He is an artist, as well, and is always pushing me to try new techniques and methods.

If you had no boundaries: money, time, space, support, etc. what dream project would you pursue?
IA: I have a second book illustration idea I would like to pursue when I have more time.  And I would like to make myself a jet pack.

What’s your favorite thing to do to kill time? Any secret Internet time wasters, guilty pleasures?
IA: If I just have a few minutes to kill, I will often be on the internet reading news, watching best of youtube, or looking at cute cat videos (that’s my guilty pleasure).

Where do you like to go when you just want to get away? A beach, a mall, a market? What’s your favorite type of spot to go unwind.
IA: I’m the typical Seattle-ite.  I hike, read, or have a beer to unwind.  One of my favorite getaways is driving to a small town I’ve never been to, finding a cheap hotel or B&B, and then visiting the local diner and reading the local newspaper.

If you only had one more meal to eat on this world what would it be? (It can be several courses)|
IA: I am not sure I could pick, I love food so much!  It would likely include beef of some kind, followed by coffee and chocolate…or a grinder & soup from the Hopvine.

What do you love about most UCU’s Summer Show?
IA: This is my first year as a vendor, but I have been shopping the UCU shows since close to the beginning.  All the local products and businesses are fantastic!  I am always impressed by the variety and the artistic talent.

Tell readers what they should expect to see when they stop by and see you at UCU.
IA: You will see a collection of cards & prints, primarily animal subjects with subtle but distinct attitude.

Irene is generously offering her beautiful “Pile of Animals” prints. Just leave a comment for your chance to win!
