Vendor Interview and Giveaway- Monkey Sock Monkey

Tell our readers a little bit about yourself and your work.
Monkey Sock Monkey is a collaboration between two artists. We started
out by sending sock monkeys and illustrations back and forth between
Santa Cruz and Seattle. We have always been driven by the art, and we
keep seeking new ways to get the art to a wider audience in a variety
of ways, be that ceramics, prints, postcards, sock animals, books, or
DIY kits.
What are some sources of inspiration for your work?
We get a lot of inspiration from words. One of us will latch on to a
word, and then that item or concept will start popping up. Or, we like
knowing the whole back story to our characters. Each new character
that we introduce has a pretty complete story before it gets drawn;
the story informs the illustration and design choices that are
subsequently made.
What was the best thing you did with your summer?
My favoritest thing I did with my summer was going to Cape Cod. I had
never been, but had long dreamt of marshy shores and lobster races. It
was a really great and much appreciated vacation.
Are you showcasing anything new at the winter UCU show?
Yes! We are so excited to be unveiling two new characters. Right now
we have sock monkeys and a sock crocodile; at the show we will also
have a sock squirrel and a sock squid! The squirrel is a blue-ribbon
pie maker named Minnie Wimzy. The squid is an undersea rocket
scientist with ambitions of seeing the moon. His name is Squiddicus.
What are you most excited about for UCU?
I'm really excited to get people's feedback on the squid and squirrel!
I love getting to talk to folks about the art and animals, and UCU is
the best opportunity for that.
