Vendor Interview- Katy and Zucchini

Tell our readers a little bit about yourself and your work.
I am a total nerd, and have embraced my inner goober. I am a science teacher on temporary leave to raise my kiddos (2.5 years old and 6 months). Being at home is awesome, but I started to get a little stir crazy--so two years ago, I learned how to screen print. I had very little capital to start, so I developed a cheap (and 'green') method of making my screens using recycled materials found from thrift stores. I started designing clothing for my daughter, creating mainly baby clothing in the beginning, and have branched out into adult stuff recently...
What are some sources of inspiration for your work?
I love old scientific images, vintage dictionary sketches, etc. I use many vintage images in my designs. My designs all tend to reflect my background in science.
What was the best thing you did with your summer?
Played! I bought a bounce house, and I must say...I am pretty sure it is the best purchase I have EVER made. :) My husband disagrees. He is wrong.
Are you showcasing anything new at the winter UCU show?
Of course! I have some awesome new designs for tots and LOTS of new adult designs. My new favorite is my "Eat me" line for adults. This line features a large silhouette of an animal/etc (Platypus, Moose, Zombie) with an image of what that animal eats printed in its stomach. I also have a new baby onesie which is a silhouette of a baby crawling, and hash lines dividing and labeling the 'cuts' of the baby (brisket, etc.) The newest baby design may cross the line of 'good taste'...
What are you most excited about for UCU?
The shopping! I always spend all my money at UCU. Last year, I made my husband tend my booth while I shopped nearly the entire time. He was a good sport!
