Tell our readers a little bit about yourself and your work.

Hi there!  I’m Meah, of Mama Meah Designs.  Some of my fondest memories are of making doll clothes and play clothes for my little sister.  Even though I had outgrown dolls and playing dress up by that point, I enjoyed making little bits of make believe as much as she enjoyed using them.  Turning crafting into a business is relatively new for me, but there is no question that crafting for children has remained a passion.  I now design children’s clothes and fabric goods in my Seattle studio.  While I create with function in mind, a bit of whimsy is always thrown in for good measure.

What are some sources of inspiration for your work?

I have a big imagination for a gal my age.  As I go about my day, average things tend to develop into stories of their own.  Much of my work is inspired by what I see in these imaginings.  Each piece has its own tale to tell, which I hope shines through.

What was the best thing you did with your summer?

I spent time with my Husband!  He’s usually away all summer, studying forests.  It was great to have him here with me instead.  It made it a rather magical and romantic season, even when doing everyday things.

Are you showcasing anything new at the winter UCU show?

My first Fall/Winter line of clothing and other stitchery.  A bunch of cozy items to help brighten the rainy season here in the PNW.

What are you most excited about for UCU?

This will be my first UCU experience, my first big show in fact.  So, I’m pretty excited about everything!  I’m most excited about seeing the work the other artists are doing and meeting new people.
