Tell our readers a little bit about yourself and your work.

Hi Urban Craft Uprising folks! My name is Matthew Porter. I am a children's book writer and illustrator. I currently live in Seattle but grew up in the South of England. I am actually on vacation just now visiting family and going down memory lane to places like the Brighton sea side pier! I am here for 2 short weeks but it is always nice to get home and see my family and have my little one visit his English side of the family.

What are some sources of inspiration for your work?

I love looking at vintage children's books. I have a list of my top 10 books on my site. I can't resist the books area at the thrift store and inevitably come home with a stack of books each time I go.

What was the best thing you did with your summer?

I went to the Washington state fair and watched the piglet races. It has got to be the highlight of my summer!

Are you showcasing anything new at the winter UCU show?

I have two new enamel necklaces. One of my DJ monkey and one of my owl. It will be the first time I showcase them in Seattle!

What are you most excited about for UCU?

I love the excitement of the day and getting to talk to customers and other vendors. It is always incredibly exciting and motivating to get out of my studio and talk to people who enjoy my work!
