Vendor Interview- Tuesday Scarves

Tell our readers a little bit about yourself and your work.
I am an artist and designer with a serious scarf obsession. I love wearing them, making them and selling them. Seattle is my hometown, and I know how to make scarves that works with our climate. Tuesday Scarves exhibit functionality and fashion with versatile loop designs and a multitude of fabric choices.
What are some sources of inspiration for your work?
The loop design of my scarves is inspired by Seattle weather. In conceptualizing my line, I wanted to create pieces that could be worn year round and adjusted with our always changing climate. I also felt inclined to offer an approachable accessory that could add color and print to the common gray and black Seattle palette. I find the bold prints and polished shapes of 60s Mod London especially inspiring, and strive to recreate pieces that exude that same sense of POP. I enjoy experimenting with interesting combinations of texture and print and put materials together like puzzle pieces. I take material samples and move them around until something just clicks.
What was the best thing you did with your summer?
Over the summer, I went on a buying trip to San Francisco. My uncle took me on a fabric shopping tour and I found a wide range of unique and inspiring materials. I visited the luxurious Britex Fabrics store downtown and treated myself to a little piece of Emilio Pucci silk fabric from Italy. Really can't wait to go back!
Are you showcasing anything new at the winter UCU show?
My favorite part of being a designer is the creative process. I typically do not make more than a few of the same scarf, and constantly challenge myself to come up with new and unique material combinations. I will have my tricolor line, jersey knit prints, plaid flannels, faux furs, sweater knits, and a new line of texture inspired scarves at the show.
What are you most excited about for UCU?
This is my first time vending at UCU and I can't wait! I've designed my booth to encourage people to try on different options and expand their wardrobe beyond the basics. I love helping people find their perfect scarf and I'm excited to work with the devoted handmade shoppers that attend UCU. I can't even describe the joy I feel when someone walks away with one of my creations.
